Marlow 1st XI lost there first friendly at Uxbridge on Saturday. Batting first the green wicket and damp conditions made live difficult early on. Marlow lost 3 wickets for 60 due some excellent seam bowling from their Australian import. Super Kev held firm and Malith joined him to rebuild the innings. With Marlow behind the clock, Malith tried one to many slog sweeps and eventually fell with the score on 141. With only 7 overs left, Marlow tried to up the pace against Uxbridges' overseas qiuckie and lost a succession of wickets. Kev eventually went for 80 and no-one else made an impression in the total of 164-8 in 45 overs.
In reply, Uxbridge took 10 off hamptons' first over. However as Pistol and Tom tightened up they frustrated the openers. Marlow snagged their first wicket with the score on 28 when the opener was late on a pull shot and gave Tom a simply caught & bowled. During the first 20 overs the seamers had no luck, with many play and misses and inside edges and the run rate hovering around 3 an over. Malith and Gary replaced the openers and bowled tidyly. However, with no wicket bar a defranco consolation Uxbridge won with 4 overs to spare.
Though the scoreline was convincing, Marlow can be heartened by the performance of the younger players. Missing several 1st teamers and overseas players (unlike Uxbridge who relied heavily on there's) , Marlow were competative for most of the match and with some luck things could of been alot closer. |
